How Can You Want To Enhance Your Daily Walking Workouts? Here Are 2 Super Simple Tips That Can Make A Big Difference!

While walking is excellent exercise, it's not necessarily ideal when it comes to actually burning away extra fat. If you walk at a slow to moderate pace instead of a fast one, you may never even stimulate your metabolism enough to accomplish your fitness goals. Fortunately, those fitness goals are within your grasp, as long as you walk smarter. Here are two super simple tips that you can put into action right away to make your walking routine more effective.

Try the Talking Test

When you're walking at your standard pace, try the talking test. Try speaking on the phone (or speaking to your companion if you have a walking buddy) as you walk. Carry on a normal conversation for as long as you can, taking note of how long the conversation lasts.

If you're able to comfortably speak on the phone or to your companion for more than a couple of minutes, you probably aren't walking fast enough to get your heart rate up (and therefore to get your metabolism going.) If you're able to carry on a conversation as comfortably as you could while sitting at home on the couch, you need to gradually increase your speed each day until you actually feel yourself huffing and puffing a bit while you move through your walking routine.

Wear a Weighted Belt

When people think of taking weights on their walk, they may decide against it because it seems like too much trouble. After all, it does seem a bit inconvenient to carry weight in each hand while you're walking for long distances. The good news is that you don't need to actually carry hand weights to add some weight power to your walk. Try adjustable weighted belts on for size -- they are easy to strap around your midsection and can be quite comfortable once you've adjusted them for your body.

If you wear this type of weighted belt, you'll have a hands free way to add resistance to your walking workout. Most adjustable weighted vests are only around 5-8 pounds, but that's enough weight to make your walking workout more intense -- and that means you'll burn more calories.

As you can see, walking can be a great workout if you're willing to make the adjustments discussed above. While these are simple changes, they can reap big benefits in terms of your overall health and wellness -- and you might just be able to shed those extra pounds more easily!
